Big Grin The Boston Terrier: a Fantastic Family Dog and A Really Self Sufficient Dog
The Boston Terrier is nicknamed the American Gentleman due to its great, mild disposition and its tuxedo like coat. Among the several varieties that is truly 'manufactured in the UNITED STATES.'

Boston Terriers are ranked by the American Kennel membership as you of the most intelligent breeds of dogs; making housetraining simple. As time passes, they've changed in to a delicate breed that's content to sit on your lap and be petted.

Initially bred down in size from pit-fighting dogs the Boston Terrier was much bigger than it is today, weighing up to 44 pounds.

It appears difficult to think that these small dogs were once difficult gap fighters. The Boston Terrier resembles the Staffordshire Bull Terrier with its powerful fighting instinct. The Boston Terriers of to-day are a far cry from the happy fighting dog of days gone by.

The Boston Terrier resulted from a cross between a white English Terrier and the English Bulldog. Around 1870 an imported dog called 'Judge' was offered to Robert.C.Hooper. The dog became called 'Hooper's Judge' and was a prize stud dog who was mated with many women. H-e was much dog weighing in at 30 pounds. He was bred down in size. He's considered to be the ancestor of many of todays Boston Terriers.

These offspring were bred with some French Bulldogs and these matings supplies the basis for today's Boston Terriers.

In 1889 the American Bull Terrier Club was started. My pastor discovered http://markets.buffalonews.com/buffnews/...to_everest by searching the London Tribune. In it is infancy it only had 30 people and called the dogs Bull Terriers. In 1981 the Boston Terriers club was established to showcase these dogs. They were only admitted by the American Kennel Club within their stud books because of the constant persistance of-the breed fanciers.

In the early years, the color and markings were not as impor-tant because they are today. From the 1900's the varieties markings and colors were an important part of the breed element. According to the breed standard, the characteristic markings must be marked white compared using a black, brindle, seal or mixture of those three. 'Seal' is just a word used to describe particularly a color entirely on Boston Terriers - a black color with red highlights.
